ABSTRACT
Because our topic is food, I helped the teacher change the home corner into a kitchen cum restaurant. This gave several opportunities for providing activities that support oracy and literacy development. The teacher had already provided menus. I added two illustrated recipe books, one with Malaysian dishes and one with European dishes. I am intending to build on the resources by adding posters, printed materials and a banner advertising the restaurant in the children’s community languages. Some parents are keen to help with this as they are encouraged by seeing the value placed on their culture.
