ABSTRACT

Five-year-old Ade is playing with some cars on the floor and Charlotte, who is 18 months old, is sorting through a pile of books. She picks up Fox in Socks and goes over to Ade. She uses a lot of body language to tell Ade what she wants. She gives him the book, then takes him by the hand. Ade seems to find this amusing and follows her lead. Charlotte keeps saying ‘Boo! Boo! There! There!’ (She says ‘boo’ for book.)

She pulls him over to an armchair and only lets go of his hand when she is sure he is going to sit with her. She repeats ‘Boo Boo?’ in a questioning tone, as if to say, ‘Well, are you going to read to me?’
