ABSTRACT

I certainly found in the task of extending literacy through play that self-initiated writing activities seem to produce much more fluency than some teacher-initiated tasks. I think this is because the child is in control of their direction and their task becomes meaningful to them. I transformed the home corner into a school corner, incorporating lots of literacy materials. The children were very enthusiastic and produced some wonderful examples of writing and stories. Some inspirational books were generated in the book writing and bookmaking area that I set up.
