ABSTRACT
The recommendations of a report of the Inquiry into Child Abuse in Cleveland (1988), with the emphasis on listening to children, and the implementation of the Children Act 1989 (which consolidated legislation concerning the welfare of children) have had a significant impact on lawyers working in the field, and there has been an enormous increase in the numbers of lawyers interested in work involving young people, with a corresponding increase in the attention paid to how we work with them.
