ABSTRACT
The work we did with college basketball players grew out of just such an approach. We both came from strong sports backgrounds. Patti lettered in three varsity sports in high school at a time when girls could not always legitimately play sports. She even wondered what it would be like to have grown up in a society where women could play sports professionally and why established gender roles did not permit it. Peter has been a rabid sports fan for as long as he can remember, frequently wondering what it was like behind the scenes, what went on in the locker room, what the players talked about, and how they prepared for their games.
