ABSTRACT
All Nordic countries are sparsely settled – Denmark though is more densely populated than the others. 1 Their languages are related – except the Finnish language. Three out of the five – Denmark, Finland and Sweden – belong to the European Union; Norway and Iceland are members in the European Economic Area (EEA). All Nordic countries share, however, social and cultural values best known in connection with the concept of a Nordic welfare state.
