ABSTRACT

The study of victimization among drug abusers is the study of a frontier problem between Law and Psychology. First, in many countries, repressive laws and policies help push the drug market into hidden and potentially dangerous places, leaving the victim little recourse other than retaliation. Second, the lifestyle of many of these victimized drug abusers had already placed them in potentially dangerous situations before they started abusing illicit drugs: many were gang members in their adolescence, or were involved in minor delinquency, or associated with violent people. In a pilot study to gain a better understanding of the victimization of drug abusers, 12 addicts were interviewed and their discourse on victimization related to the drug market was analyzed. The results of the pilot study are presented and analyzed.
