ABSTRACT

I am well aware of the shortcoming of the term ‘response’ when we attempt to express the complete lack of options of the Jews in general and east European Jews in particular in the face of the fanatical anti-Jewish obsession and the determination of the Nazis to implement the Final Solution with all their power. Nor can we discuss the subject without first briefly dealing with the structure and trends of development, of Polish Jewish society during the period between the two world wars and their attitudes, activity and behaviour during the period of the Second World War and the Holocaust.
