ABSTRACT

Listening to stories enthrals all ages, especially in childhood. Spontaneous story telling has the advantage that the tale told may be modified by the listener’s responses. Often a story’s hero or heroine goes from personal disadvantage to personal fulfilment, a time that requires the hero or heroine to overcome a powerful evil figure and to experience shame. Shame occurs with the process of growing up, in phases of education and training, in grief and some therapies.
