Afterthreeyeareswerepassedover,inamorningbetimeshe wenttotownebeforehisdame;whouponsomeoccasion(oflike tomakewater)staiedalittlebehind.Inthemeanetimebeing neeretoachurche,heheardalittlesaccaringbellringtotheelevationofamorrowemasse,andnotdaringtogointothechurch,least heshouldhavebeenebeatenanddrivenoutwithcudgels,ingreat devotionhefelldowneinthechurchyard,uponthekneesofhis hinderlegs,anddidlifthisforefeetoverhishead,asthepreestdoth holdthesacramentattheelevation. 1Whichprodigioussightwhen certeinemerchantsofGenuaespied,andwithwoonderbeheld; anoncommeththewitchwithacudgellinhirhand,beating foorththeasse.Andoicause(asithathbeenesaid)suchkindsof witchcraftsareverieusuallinthoseparts;themerchantsaforesaid madesuchmeanes,asboththeasseandthewitchwereattached bythejudge.Andshebeingexaminedandsetupontheracke,confessedthewholematter,andpromised,thatifshemighthave libertietogohome,shewouldrestorehimtohisoldshape;and beingdismissed,shedidaccordinglie.Soasnotwithstandingthey apprehendedhiragaine,andburnedhir:andtheyoungman returnedintohiscountriewithajoifullandmerriehart.
