ABSTRACT

The ways in which parents and schools interact have strong implications for the types of educational opportunities experienced by children. Effective schools provide opportunities for parents to both support and participate in their children’s education (Smith and O’Day 1991). The research on parental involvement in schools also indicates a relationship between student achievement and certain types of involvement (Epstein 1992; Henderson 1987). Thus parental involvement is an important component of providing students with opportunities to learn.
