ABSTRACT
As an anthropologist, an area of inquiry that has always intrigued me is cultural continuity and change. In my attempt to gain greater insight and understanding into this phenomenon, particularly as it applied to Japanese Americans, I had decided to use the life history approach, focusing on the life experiences of my mother, an Issei woman from Hiroshima, Japan, who had immigrated to the United States in 1923.
