ABSTRACT

The end of the World War II led to momentous changes in the global power dynamics. As Europe was trying to recover from the devastation caused by the war, a bipolar international power structure began to take shape with the USA and the Soviet Union emerging as the major actors. When the American hopes for collaborating with the Soviet Union in reaching a post-war settlement collapsed, the seeds of the Cold War were planted.
