ABSTRACT
My parents were married in 1938. Mother was a secretary in a City of London firm and my father was in the Merchant Navy. For a couple of years they lived in London but in 1940 my mother’s firm was evacuated to Rusthall, a village near Tunbridge Wells in Kent. My mother moved with her widowed mother whilst my father sailed to places unknown-wartime security meant that his whereabouts could not be revealed, even to his family.
