ABSTRACT

Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson also saw the potential of using small toys in a defined space to access the human psyche as had other innovative clinicians and researchers during this time period, such as Margaret Lowenfeld and Charlotte Bühler. Although Erikson would not be considered one of the founders of the sand tray movement, he is included in this history because he developed the Dramatic Productions Test (DPT), which used miniatures in a defined space as a means of understanding human development.
