International Academics in Africa: The South African Experience

South Africa arguably has the most advanced higher education system in Africa. It has a well-developed, well-endowed, and well-established higher education system envied across the continent. If the controversial rankings are used as the gold standard of quality, the only country whose universities feature in most of these growing global rankings is South Africa-albeit in the lower echelons of the rankings. When South African universities are, however, compared against their sister institutions on the continent, they dominate the top of the list.
