ABSTRACT
A more detailed regional survey of tourism in the LDCs has been provided elsewhere (Harrison 1992a:4-8). However, some regions are clearly far more involved in the tourism industry than others. Latin America and the Caribbean (‘the Americas’) and South and Southeast Asia attract 67 per cent of all arrivals to LDCs and obtain 74 per cent of all LDC receipts from this industry. Oceania, West Asia and Africa (along with Turkey, regarded by the WTO as the only LDC in Europe) lag considerably behind, as indicated in table 12.2.
