ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the nature of hearing loss in children and is particularly addressed to the needs of hearing-impaired children in mainstream classes and to the educational sequelae of the condition. Such a chapter cannot adequately address all of the issues which are likely to be faced by the classroom teacher and so can only be regarded as the briefest introduction. More detail can be found in Webster and Ellwood (1985) and in Webster and Wood (1989).
