ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to consider the practical requirements of introducing a temporary exhibition programme into a forward plan. In doing so, one of the key factors must be that of definition. Exhibitions are as diverse as museums themselves. Some are the result of large teams and substantial budgets, others are more modest affairs, possibly the work of one person. Some can be bought in, others can be produced ‘inhouse’. Once the type of exhibition is established, many other questions need to be asked. My role is to ask them; the answers can only come from the reader, who understands them in relation to his/her own institution.
