ABSTRACT
This chapter is concerned with war and a variety of closely related phenomena including nuclear deterrence and proliferation, rebellion, military intervention, terrorism, the arms trade and conscientious objection to military service. The first section examines a number of theories about war; the second section considers their relation to contemporary problems.
