ABSTRACT

In this chapter we shall examine what resources are available in the Christian tradition for a theological approach to the concepts of health and disease and then proceed to see how these are developed by some theologians. The principal theological themes discerned are the doctrine of creation and the limits of the power of human beings exercised in self-transcendence as part of both original creation and redemption. The application of these themes in dealing with some particular problems in bioethics is also discussed.
