ABSTRACT
It is a little strange to consider a major book whose topic is ostensibly the cultural politics of ‘race’ in Britain, and to realise that most of its influence has been in other fields: of state theory, of theories of political ideology, and of left political strategies in response to ‘Thatcherism’.
