ABSTRACT
Other branches of the engineering industries give further evidence of the twentieth-century southward shift in location apparent in iron and steel, motor vehicle and aircraft manufacture. In the case of the industries considered in this section, this tendency is largely a consequence of the changing structure of the industry; older, often northern-based textile, railway, and marine engineering branches declined, the electrical and electronic engineering industries grew.
