ABSTRACT

Part of the background to this division is the feeling that basic research within the second-generation paradigm has reached its limits: for example, it could be said that in the twenty-six years since the ALPAC report of 1966, the second-generation architecture has led to only slightly better results than the architecture it replaced; so from a research point of view it is timely to question all the assumptions that have been accepted unequivocally in that period, just to see what would happen. I will return to this view later.
