ABSTRACT
Translation, a sine qua non for the comprehension of a text by a reader unfamiliar with the language in which it was first written, has doubtless been practised in one form or another for several millennia; yet, until modern times, translators possessed little in the way of tools, apart from manual writing implements, erasers and hard-copy reference sources.
