ABSTRACT

This chapter will consider the specific contributions clinical psychologists can make to the improvement of the quality of life of persons with epilepsy. It is increasingly recognised that clinical psychologists have a major role to play in the assessment and treatment of people with epilepsy (Cull and Goldstein, 1997) and while clinical psychology interventions may be targeted at reducing the severity and frequency of epileptic seizures (see below), clinical psychologists can also contribute to improved quality of life in patients with epilepsy by assessing and remediating the cognitive and varied psychosocial difficulties that may accompany the disorder.
