ABSTRACT

Gender-based violence (GBV)1 is an endemic societal issue, including on college campuses. While the campus context for GBV has received increasing national attention over the past few years, professionals trained in GBV prevention and survivor advocacy have been present on some campuses for over 30 years. Due to their positions within university bureaucracy, however, the voices of campusbased experts are rarely heard on a national level. With an administrative emphasis on compliance and lawsuit aversion, their recommendations are often not implemented on their own campuses, leading to strategies aimed more at reputation management than supporting GBV survivors or taking meaningful steps toward building a culture of prevention.
