Let me give you a typical “load-in” day at a studio equipment rental supply house. First and foremost, “Thank God for rental houses.” The owners have put a lot of time and money into setting them up. I know this because for 8 years I owned one myself. Believe me when I say, it will turn a grown person’s hair gray fast. No matter what size of Rental Company you go to, it probably will not have all the equipment that you need. You as a technician will sometimes have to plan for the equipment that the rental company does not have. You’ll have to work with substitutions. You will have to work with what is available. Then, the other shoe drops. This is called the shortlist. Let me explain by giving you an everyday scenario.
