ABSTRACT

You are teaching a class. The students are busy working on their assignments. You do your routines, but in your mind you are thinking about other things. So are you really there? Yes, you are physically there since you are walking around the classroom and observing the students. But where is your attention? Let’s be honest; sometimes your thoughts just wander. Perhaps the situation you are in is not so interesting. Suddenly you’re alarmed; you realize that you were ‘away’ for a minute. You are now trying hard to be more present in the here-and-now. But a moment later your attention wanders somewhere else. Your attention is always somewhere, but are you in the here-and-now? Are you really in touch with yourself, your task, and the people around you?
