ABSTRACT

Sheila comes into my practice complaining of “anxiety, shortness of breath. Sometimes I feel like I am having a heart attack and I am just so nervous and scared.” She is a 37-year-old married woman. She was referred to my practice by her obstetrician. Sitting on the couch in my office, she appears as tense and tightly held together. She had already taken out a few Kleenex from the box on the table between us in the office. I sat back in my chair and asked Sheila to share with me what she had been experiencing that led her to call and make an appointment with me.
