Writing about immigration, which I have been doing for more than eight years, is among the most important and challenging beats at The Arizona Republic, the largest newspaper in Arizona and one of the largest in the United States. Since the late 1990s, Arizona has been ground zero for illegal immigration. There are several reasons the state has gained this “distinction.”
