ABSTRACT
Although civil society is a widely used concept, ‘the big idea on everyone’s lips’ (Edwards 2004: 2), there is no commonly agreed upon understanding of the term. Consequently, it means ‘all things to all people’ (Glasius 2004: 3). In fact, this fuzziness (Spurk 2010: 3) may itself be further adding to the concept’s popularity.
