ABSTRACT
CORY AND JESSICA As he drove home from work, Cory remembered that it was his night to start dinner and do a few chores. When he walked in the front door, however, the computer caught his eye, and the lure of playing World of Warcraft was just too much to resist. In a flash, he stationed himself in front of the screen, oblivious to the passage of time until his fiancée, Jessica, came through the door and started yelling at him for wasting time and getting nothing done. Cory’s preoccupation with all things electronic is not limited to gaming. At work, he uses his smartphone constantly (though clandestinely) to check the stock market during meetings; it has caused him to miss important information critical to his job performance.
