ABSTRACT

Durkheim's sociological theory was developed a century ago, when the modernization process of industrial society was perceived to be generating a set of disintegrating processes; class conflicts, recurrent economic crisis, increased suicide rates, lack of social values, etc. (Usátegui, 2003). This social unrest had to be addressed through social regulating processes and the generation of social integration; where the state and the education system played a key role.
