ABSTRACT

The previous eight chapters were devoted to describing and analysing marketised discourse. The four empirical chapters in Part II, in particular, focused on identifying key sites at which marketisation occurs, what the socio-political background is in each case, and how it manifests itself in texts. From the outset, though, I left no doubt that the analytical goals of the study were twinned with normative ones, and that the analysis of marketisation would eventually be harnessed to help challenge and resist it. The ninth chapter, then, attempts to deliver on this promise.
