ABSTRACT

The most rapidly growing tourism sectors are nature and ecotourism (WTO, 2006), both of which are related and increase the interest in remoter rural areas in Europe such as those in the north and east European countries which often have abundant forest resources. This means that the countryside is changing from being a place of primary production to a place for providing recreation and tourism services. In consequence, the number of visitors to the countryside is likely to grow in comparison to the actual residents of these areas, who are often declining in number. This means that two cultures – urban leisure and everyday rural life – will meet each other.
