ABSTRACT
After offering some overall thoughts on the recent Uruguay Round, I propose to discuss, first, some conceptual problems that arise when distinguishing between food trade and food aid. I hope to show that these conceptual problems are by no means only matters of statistical significance but have important policy implications. Secondly, I will discuss some of the problems arising from the Uruguay Round which will now have to be faced by the new World Trade Organization (WTO).
