ABSTRACT

Infectious agents transmitted by blood-feeding arthropods are responsible for millions of cases of disease annually (Gubler, 2000). In addition, the emergence and resurgence of new and previously recognized vector-borne diseases continues to rise due to a number of factors that range from changes in public health policies to changes in the genetic makeup of infectious agents (Gratz, 1999).
