ABSTRACT
The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act 200 of 1993 came into force on 27 April 1994 officially marking the end of apartheid. For the first time people of all races could participate in a general election. The changes that the Interim Constitution (IC) brought about were revolutionary. It ended the Westminster tradition of parliamentary sovereignty in South Africa by asserting itself as ‘the supreme law of the Republic’.
