ABSTRACT

The recent protests in relation to the World Trade Organisation115 and the increasing concern over the global economy highlight the problems of the accountability of supranational organisations, and also multi-national corporations, which are increasingly seen as operating outside the traditional areas of accountability.116 The conflict between trade and the environment has arisen in a number of cases.117 It is clear that, whilst this book concentrates on the law in England, the issue of environmental improvement is a global issue.
