ABSTRACT

To the Norwegian, the question is why the young Tanzanian man sent him in the wrong direction.1 Or is it possible to see this story differently? Who is the honourable man in the story? Could it be that both of them are, simply because there were different cultural ‘spectacles’ filtering out what they see? Would it be possible that they eventually perceive the situation in the same way spontaneously? If so, how? This points to the main question to be discussed in this chapter: in what ways does culture enter methodology?2
