ABSTRACT

The aim of this essay is to analyse the meaning of gender norms that have operated within the Sicilian Mafia since the end of the Second World War. The Mafia is a criminal association renowned for being “full of male chauvinists”. 1 In fact, it is an all-male group and no woman has ever been admitted into it. 2 In spite of their exclusion women have featured in norms upheld by this criminal group.
