ABSTRACT

Barcelona is an example of a strategy depending on a big event: the Olympic Games of 1992. The Games were the catalyst for a whole branch of public investment associated with general modernization. Even more important was the key role of the private sector in the process. Barcelona also illustrates how an investment such as that in the Olympics can have more benefits than the same amount of investment put in other cities-as with Seville, which hosted the Expo 1992.
