ABSTRACT
The Jamaican experience with Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) reform is particularly interesting, because Jamaica was one of the first countries where SAPs by the World Bank were implemented, and in which the loan conditions were somewhat harsh. Jamaica is also distinguished by the fact that, prior to the onset of SAP implementation, the country’s economic position was relatively good. In addition, Jamaica had a strong tradition of political participation.
