ABSTRACT
Blame plays another role. When we have identified and blamed a wrongdoer we legitimize retribution. As I hope I have already clarified, retribution primarily serves social purposes-although it is frequently justified in the light of its alleged role in preventing future acts, or omissions, of a similar nature (Error & Punishment 1991).
