ABSTRACT

The first part of this chapter concentrates on property transformation, especially privatization. It is a controversial issue in Poland because it is linked, though not always justifiably, with declining standards of living and with unemployment of large sectors of the population. The second part discusses enterprise strategies and senior management behaviour against a background of increasing market forces. The final section discusses emerging patterns of relations, in terms of power and politics, between institutional actors at enterprise level, namely management, trade unions and employees’ councils.1
