ABSTRACT

There are two major aims to this chapter: to describe the development of industrial relations in Bulgarian enterprises, and to discuss the contextual pressures, influences and interdependencies accompanying the process of transformation of society. Both of these have helped to shape emerging workplace industrial relations systems. The empirical information on which this chapter is based has been collected for over two years, starting in April 1992, in four enterprises from different branches of industry. The cases are shown in Table 2.1. In addition, data from other studies of industrial relations and economic reforms have been used, together with surveys and national statistics.
