Sound in editing

My most vivid memory of a response to a film I had cut was from Edith Vogel, the late virtuoso pianist and teacher. After the screening she said: ‘Very nice, but not enough silences.’ It was a very important lesson. She also believed that musical performance was 90% technique and 10% inspiration. Perhaps that applies to film making too.
