ABSTRACT
The battle to capture and harness dance began the moment the motion picture camera was invented. Early filmmakers believed that to create moving pictures, they had to photograph moving objects. Rushing locomotives, racing horses, and hundreds of dancers soon became the contents of the early short, silent films.
