ABSTRACT

In 1990, I first directed a television program that consisted solely of dance material. That program, “Speaking in Tongues,” choreographed by Paul Taylor for the Dance In America series on PBS, was the beginning of a stream of work that I have been privileged to do. As I reinterpret dance for the screen, I have come across a set of issues that arise again and again. Addressing these issues forms the core of the way I direct dance for the screen.
